Health, Belonging, & Campus Safety:

Graduate school can be stressful. We encourage everyone to find a healthy balance of professional growth, career readiness, social support, and self-care. We hope this includes time at the UO Rec Center, exploring community supports through the Dean of Students Office, taking advantage of free visits to the Counseling Services, and other healthy choices.

At UO, nothing is more important than the safety of students, faculty, and staff at the university. While steps are taken to prevent violence and emergencies on campus, there is a possibility they can still occur. As we all work to take precautions, here are some campus safety resources and tips.

+ UO Safe – help for victims and survivors

+ Sign up for UO Alerts via DuckWeb for cell and email alerts

+ Review the UO Emergency Procedures Guide

+ Make your own emergency plan and supply kit

+ Check building evacuation maps (posted in hallways) for evacuation routes and assembly areas

+ Use Duck Rides when traveling alone at night: 541-346-RIDE

Childcare Subsidy and Student Parent Resources:

We know supporting your family and going to school at the same time is strenuous. As a graduate student, you are eligible to apply for Childcare Subsidy through ASUO. This incidental fee funded program reimburses 20-50% of the cost of childcare expenses for student parents. Forms are also available in their office in the EMU. They will provide you with a list of approved providers, but (since arranging child care can still be tricky), here are some additional resources to assist in this and related endeavors.

+ Graduate Student Assistance Fund – financial assistance for graduate students with a new child, childcare expenses for a new child, a medical issue, or other qualifying event

+ Oregon Office of Student Access and Completion (OSAC)

+ Co-Op Family Center – an independent, nonprofit co-operative childcare center for children aged 8 weeks to 10 years (student families receive priority and a tuition discount)

+ Moss Street Children’s Center – run through the Erb Memorial Student Union, this center serves children aged 3 months through 3rd grade (student families recieve priority and a tuition discount)

+ Vivian Olum Child Development Center – run through Human Resources, this center serves children aged 8 weeks through 5th grade (faculty and staff families recieve priority but center serves some student families and offers a tuition discount to all UO-affiliated families)

+ Parent & Family Help Line and Parent and Family Programs – 541-346-3234
